Accepting apprentice applications for 2022

Hello, world! DIA Design Guild is preparing for the 2022 cohort for DIA Design Guild's apprentice program, starting in late January and lasting about 9 months. The program is free, self-paced, funded by goodwill and compassion for supporting the incoming generation of people working in tech, experience, UX, wherever you are.

Ideally, the apprentice program is catered towards those who haven't made it -- haven't found their way, need help understanding. If you've won awards, are already in grad school/bootcamp, have connections to get their next UX gig, you don't need DIA really.

🤔
DIA is really about helping those who have been or feel "invisible", unsupported, underrepresented, burnt out, finding purpose, want to feel safe to experiment and try new things.

The apprentice program is run by our co-founder and resident Information Architect, Grace Lau, so this means that projects tend to be heavily based on design (user) research, information architecture, and content.

We have only a few slots open because we are limited by time, energy, and sleep. So, apply by January 14 at the very latest. We'll be starting the 2022 cohort program in late January.

A Structured 2022 Apprentice Program

This is a 9-month cohort, where you will work on user experience foundations to give you a more well-rounded understanding of UX. It's 9 actual months, asynchronous in the summer months.

It is completely free - no debt, no income share agreement, all remote instruction. No background experience is necessary; the apprentice program is focused on developing your mindset for better understanding. You won’t be learning about how to use Figma per se; tools come and go. Building hard and soft skills for long-term success in the industry is the focus here.

What to Expect

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll learn/refresh your understanding and process for documentation, project management, content and design deliverables, whether your focus is on content, design, research, or other tenet in the UX field.

  • Networking with other apprentices
  • Individual and group projects
  • Regular meetings with an experienced mentor
  • Informational workshops, projects, mixers, etc.

You'll meet past and current apprentices - everyone is encouraged to pay it forward and help support one another.

Oh, if you've read to the end of this, thank you. We appreciate it.

Happy New Year!
