Apprentice Program - Week of August 12th, 2024 (WK33)
What’s on Julia’s mind these days?
One thing I miss not working is the sense of community and striving for a common goal.
Job searching is lonely. Even with support groups and job search circles you are still ultimately on your own.
Job searching is like hunting a many headed beast that can regrow its heads once removed (hydra perhaps?). There are multiple steps and where you are in your journey may not be the same as another person.
There is also the competitive aspect. In corporate America we all have our individual roles striving towards the same goal, but when job searching we have the same goals but it's fragmented as we can't all have the same job.
Networking remains one of the most effective ways to connect with potential employers. Your resume, online presence, and other application materials are just pieces of the puzzle that you need to show that you are better than anyone else for a certain position.
It's exhausting.
Reach out and get support for yourself when you need it. And if you are not looking for a new role, please support someone who is.
Each of you has the ability to get the job you want. We here at DIA are here to support you.
